I saw a small interview clip of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. Here’s how it went:
The interviewer mentions about the existence of Microsoft software in Apple II computers and probes how did that happen?
Bill Gates goes into facts mode, talks about how the original BASIC was integer mode, and that he worked with so-and-so to create the floating point version of it.
Meanwhile, Steve Jobs is looking at him and interjects saying wait, let me tell a story. We had the best version of BASIC on the planet. It did stuff that no other BASIC had ever done. It’s perfect in every way except for one thing, which is it’s fixed-point. We got a lot of input from people who wanted it to be floating-point. Microsoft had this really popular floating-point BASIC and we ended up going to them saying help!
If you watch Bill’s TED talks, you can see the difference in his storytelling skills over time.
