On Becoming Obsessed with F1

Posted on:Oct 12, 2026

My limited experience of car racing comes from watching the movie Ta Ra Rum Pum almost 2 decades back. It didn’t get me into the sport but it’s the main reason why I haven’t bought anything on EMIs till now (iykyk).

Fast forward to last week, I gave it a try on my PS5. I downloaded the F1 25 game and dived right into Braking Point. It has a nice storyline with some really intense moments. I got hooked instantly.

Right after that, I watched Brad Pitt’s F1 movie and the deeper I go, I’m getting more and more obsessed with everything. I’m discovering many new terms like ERS, DRS, picking up rubber, etc.

Ofcourse you aren’t allowed to hit and there are different penalties for the same. Illegal overtaking requires the driver to voluntarily hand back the place or face a penalty. Even a 5-second penalty can be a big difference maker in this sport.

You chip away tenths of a second lap after lap. You need endurance to survive till the end and capitalize on that one opportunity you get to overtake in some random lap. It’s almost like life.

Next up on my watchlist is Pixar’s Cars trilogy and the Formula 1: Drive to Survive documentary series on Netflix!

Till then, I’ll leave you with another banger from the movie:

It’s rare, but sometimes, there’s this moment in the car where everything goes quiet, my heartbeat slows, it’s peaceful, and I can see everything, and no one, no one can touch me. And I am chasing that moment every time I get in the car. I don’t know when I’ll find it again, but, man, I want to. I want to. ‘Cause in that moment, I’m flying.
