Don’t Take Someone’s Glasses Off, They Provide Psychological Safety

Posted on:Aug 23, 2022

I have been wearing glasses for decades now. It’s an integral part of my identity. Without them, I feel helpless. With them, I can do anything. My backpack always has a backup pair of glasses. I haven’t had to use them for years now but stocking for emergencies keeps my mind calm.

Glasses provide safety. Riding a two-wheeler? You’ll get less dust in your eyes. They also provide psychological safety. Like a shield. I’m not afraid of something flying off and hitting me in the eye. But as soon as I take them off, I feel naked. Vulnerable. I need to keep them within an arm’s distance while sleeping or someplace safe while engaging in an outdoor activity.

Waking up with eyes closed, moving your hand to pick up glasses in one go, putting them on, and then opening eyes feels good. If someone else takes them off while I’m napping, I get super annoyed. It’s like someone’s taking off my armour. I instantly wake up. Don’t do that, please.
