If you didn’t understand something from a book, it’s not on you. The author did not articulate their thoughts well for you. Don’t force yourself to read a book just because someone told you to. Most books are not written for you.
Don’t feel bad about not wanting to read. It’s a trade-off as you’ll have to cut off time from some other activity you’re doing. If it feels like work, it’s unlikely to be unsustainable.
It’s okay to not read. Avoid the trap of forcing yourself to like bestsellers. Don’t read to impress others. Read because you want to. Don’t read to hit your annual goal. Read because you want to. It should not feel like a chore.

The secret to building a reading habit is choice. Read what you love! Fiction. Comics. Poems. Non-fiction. Magazines. Cookbooks. Embrace your inner child. If it’s boring, put it down. Don’t be hard on yourself. It’s likely not written for you.
Read what you love until you love to read. — Naval
