Behind the Scenes of Designing a Card

Posted on:January 23, 2020 at 10:01 AM (1 min read)

Let’s start, shall we?

Look Ma, I'm a designer.

I started with Canva and made this:

Draft #1 (Front) - Canva

Draft #1 (Back) - Canva

Then I got a feedback that discount matters when people already know the product; any discount on something you’ve never heard of is moo!

Makes sense. So I started searching for templates. I liked two of them and made these drafts:

Draft #2 - https://www.bizcardmaker.com/#/?theme=theme-topline--dark-blue

Draft #3 - https://www.jukeboxprint.com/creator/template/premade/727

But they didn’t evoke that “yess” feeling - the voice in your head that tells you it’s good. So I came back to Canva again. Taking some inspiration from the above templates, I designed this:

Draft #4 (Front) - Canva

Draft #4 (Back) - Canva

The back looks good but the front of the card feels a little empty. More iterations:

Draft #5 (Front) - Canva

Draft #5 (Back) - Canva

Draft #6 (Front) - Canva

Draft #6 (Back) - Canva

I was happy with this draft. It took me a little over 2 hours to finalize this. And Printo took another 2 hours to get them into my hands, thanks for the quick turn-around and the idea for the rounded edges to match our logo. Also thank you Canva - you’re a boon to us non-designers!

Here's my card!
