An Underrated Way to Start Indie-Hacking

Posted on:Jul 16, 2023

When people explore indie-hacking, they start with brainstorming for new ideas. This feels good but there are problems with this approach:

  1. You don’t execute anything. Finding a new pain paint takes time.

  2. You build the wrong thing. You get too excited about something.

Instead, I recommend picking an existing revenue-generating product (go to IndieHackers.com and you can find a list of products with Stripe-verified revenue there) and making your version of it.

Competition is clear validation of what you’re building has demand.

What you’ll gain from this approach is that you start building your execution muscle. That will help you build future ideas faster. You get out of analysis-paralysis. You also start playing in a validated market.
